FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting to be held

Sunday, Dec. 11th, 2016

Oak Brook, IL - The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting, which unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon, is scheduled to be held on Sunday, December 11th, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. As candles are lit at 7:00 p.m. local time, hundreds of thousands of persons commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon.

Now believed to be the largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the 20th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from The Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance, the event has since swelled in numbers as word has spread throughout the world of the remembrance. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died, but will never be forgotten. The Compassionate Friends and allied organizations are joined by local bereavement groups, churches, funeral homes, hospitals, hospices, children's gardens, schools, cemeteries, and community centers. Services have ranged in size from just a few people to nearly a thousand.

          Our Walk July 19, 2015
Come and lets celebrate once again our children's lives and help make this years walk a success much like previous years. To all attending families our 2014 Walk to Remember was a beautiful event and a true success for all that attended. Even the weather although at times threatening possible showers cooperated. We had our very first butterfly release for our children, each and every  beautiful butterfly fluttered into the heavens to pay tribute to our dear and beloved children. We release Monarch and Painted Ladies. Please stand by for images to be posted on our website. Thank all families for having joined us to honor the memory of our children and make once our 4th annual 'Walk to Remember a success.

....Our 2015 WALK to REMEMBER was concluded thanks to all volunteers and families was a success. Sure it was a scorching day with temperatures north of 100 degrees. This did not hamper the spirits of the families that came together to honor the memory of the children. We had the pleasure to have the store general manager and 5 volunteers from the Kohls store 584 Western Hills help us manage the event once again. We celebrated the lives of our children and released 73 beautiful butterflies Monarchs and Painted Ladies into the magnificent habitat at Bicentennial Park. Each and every butterfly gracefully fluttered around our shelter for the good part of the morning. We thank and acknowledge Green Township for donating the shelter and park grounds to our chapter. We acknowledge many neighborhoo businesses that donated gifts that were included in our raffle. We all enjoyed each others company sharing stories and memories while enjoying a vast variety of foods and deserts. We had a raffle to help where most families won nice gifts and services.
Will post pictures and images as they become available as our friend Chis Kuettner provided his services to help capture our walk.

The west side chapter will take a summer recess and re convene on October 14 at Mercy West Park Retirement and community center. We wish all families a pleasant and safe summer.

The Compassionate Friends (TCF) Cincinnati West is one of over 660 chapters across the United States, in Puerto Rico and Guam. The greater Cincinnati area offers families two chapter locations a West and an East side.

The Compassionate Friends is a self help support group of parents, grandparents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child, grandchild, brother or sister, regardless of the age or cause of death. We cannot take away your pain, but we can offer hope, friendship and caring.

Our families at the Cincinnati West chapter would like to welcome you. We truly regret the circumstances that have made you eligible for our support group. We are however happy that you found us as we are here to offer support and share your grief.
To those of you who are newly bereaved and are on the website for the first time, we wish to extend our sympathy and warmly hold out our hands in friendship. At our monthly meetings, we offer each other support through gentle discussions, a growing lending library, and resource materials. You may come and just listen. You need not speak a word.

Attending your first meeting takes courage. But those who attend find a comforting network of support that only other bereaved families “who have been there” can give. If coming alone is too difficult, you may bring a close friend or family member with you.

TCF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving those who have suffered the death of a child, grandchild, brother or sister. We hold monthly meetings where the bereaved can discuss their grief with others who understand, and learn about survival from those further along their journey from their loss. The Cincinnati West chapter also offers a library of grief books, pamphlets and resources for the bereaved families. We also hold two annual events. Held on the second Sunday of December each year, is our annual International Candle Lighting program in memory of our loved ones. The Candle Lighting ceremony is concurrent with national and celebrated throughout the world. The second is our “Walk to Remember” normally held the second week in June. These two events are both a opportunity to help support our chapter. We also offer assistance to others who wish to help the bereaved. Our Chapter Advisory Board assists the bereaved by informing them about our local TCF chapter and offering to refer us to those families in need of support.

TCF, Inc. has over 3,300 volunteers, a volunteer 13 member Board of Directors, a paid Executive Director and seven additional paid employees. Our national office is in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Both the local Cincinnati Chapters East  and West are operated by volunteers and runs solely on family and community donations. If you would like to help the chapter continue its work in offering support to families in our local area please mail your donation to: The Compassionate Friends, 3849 Powner Road Cincinnati Ohio 45248. If you are a bereaved parent, grandparent or sibling and would like to talk with someone from our chapter, please call Michael Urbisci 513-205-8291 or email him at tcfcincywest@yahoo.com
